TADAO ANDO

If one were to simplify the meaning of architecture one could say. “The placement of light and division of spaces.” Tadao Ando and his “Church of Light” does exactly that.  Light and space is what drives this piece; colors are not needed to enhance Ando’s work.  His use of cement creates a monolithic appeal in this house of worship, and allows the light to bounce around creating an omnipotent prescience. 

Workflow pipeline consisted of modeling and texturing in 3D Studio Max, rendered with V-ray. Post processed Ambient Occlusion, specular, and diffuse maps in Photoshop, then color correct with Apple’s Aperture.

LOGO BUILDING

This image was the resulting culmination of a hybrid theory of practice of which inspired me to create architectural forms based around company mission statements and ethos.

This building in particular is the future Mercedes HQ; as originally stated by Gottleib Diamler is a ‘total domination of land, sea, and air.’  The structure is separated from the mainland as a statue that greets newcomers, and its tallest point pierces the sky permeating over the city behind it.

This visual is a result of product development through SolidWorks, computer aided manufacturing via rapid prototyping and CNC machining.

DESIGN METHODOLOGY

A slide from one of my many presentations over the course of my M.A experience.  I put this together as a visual of my design methodology and research strategy. Plainly how an Idea is fleshed out to eventually become a solution to a project I didn’t know existed.

What was the problem? Creating a topic for my project to be based off of.

DECON ARCHITECTURE

A practice where the Architect (or designer in this case) pulls and plays with geometry to discover architectural form which usually frightens or feels displaced from its surroundings.

RAPID PROTOTYPE

A previous 3D model was created with CAM (computer aided manufacturing) in mind.  This is the resulting model created from a rapid prototyping machine using a block of ABS.

3D 2 PRODUCT

This render was produced in solidworks for CAM purposing.  This experiment in design was mainly to push the ability of product design software and computer aided manufacturing to produce organic shapes for Architectural designs.
